The first day back at the old stomping grounds was pretty fun. The morning... well the morning into the early afternoon was almost all paperwork. Orientation at these places can take a lot of time.
The time after was fun. I got the detailed tour (as if I could totally forget the building) and got to see a lot of old friends. Then I ended up in my first meeting. That made me laugh. My new boss came to rescue me from the HR monsters and escort me to a planning meeting. Funny.
Then during that meeting the QA Manager and the VP came in and told us that a major utility was broken and down for the rest of the week. Nice. Talk about jumping right in with both feet.
So then I get to my new office and talk with the staff and the boss for an hour or so. I start up the PC to see if my logon is up and ready yet and find out it is. I had 27 emails. 27 emails? 10 were appointments for training but the other 17 were from people asking for something. I hadn't even been into the office yet and people want stuff from me. Obviously they will have to wait until I figure out just what it is I can do for them after I figure out exactly what I am truely responsible for.
I think some of them are anxious for help which may translate into a big "Uh oh!" for me.
No matter. It was fun to be there. It is a fun thing to feel like I am part of something that is progressing into the future. After the last job, which is stagnation city, I think things should be pretty cool.
Of course, this was just the first day. :)
