Is it necessary to tip someone at a buffet place?
I mean, one of those people who seat you and sometimes bring you a drink and then say "There's the buffet." Then you don't see them again. They really don't do anything.
My friend and I had this discussion after going to the buffet today. We left a mini-tip but still can't decide what is right or wrong.

It's completely wrong... but we ate at a buffet in September and noticed they actually write down on a little notice thingy on your ticket that tips are appreciated.
GAH! Wish we were like the European countries where tipping is not expected nor needed.
We mini-tip at a buffet- $1 or $2 depending on how often they have to pick up plates.
Isn't it funny how people are all "raise the minimum wage!" (which I am against but I won't go in to it here) but wait staff have to rely on tips to even get the minimum wage now? Skewed, I tell you.
We leave $1-2 whenever we eat at a buffet because they have to "sweep and clear" the table and sometimes bring a fresh drink, but never more than a couple bucks ever. The people that bus the tables should get a little bit of a tip for their part.
Generally we try to avoid buffets because I tend to overeat and I'm already big enough as it is.
New question: Does anyone tip their hairdressers and barbers? They already have their prices up on the wall.
