The Highwayman Revisited

... or the ongoing saga of the morning commute...

This morning we find our hero, The Highwayman, starting the morning journey feeling a bit sad. He has noticed that his ride begins lately when the sun is still down. This is a warning that the Summer is fading and he is starting to feel the loss already. Our hero hates the cold.

Coming back to himself, the Highwayman realizes his meanderings have left him in a precarious position! While his mind wandered, a nefarious trap has been sprung! He finds himself pinned in the left lane behind 18 Wheeler Guy and in front of Joe Dumptruck, who apparently sees his trunk as a parking area. 18 Wheeler Guy, as we all know from the experience of following him, can't keep a consistant speed, and Joe Dumptruck doesn't have the patience for his shenanigans.

Feeling like this situation isn't safe, our hero calls upon his usual calm, cool demeanor and begins preparations to move into the middle lane. As he checks the lane, he is utterly dismayed to find his path is blocked by none other than the infamous Shoehorn Girl. He knows it's Shoehorn Girl as there is no other way a girl of that size could fit into that Hyundai without a car-shoehorn. His enemy has planned her strategy well. She matches his speed exactly, whether speeding up or slowing down, according to the speed of 18 Wheeler Guy. Zounds! What will he do?

With a sneer on his lips and a happy glint in his eye, the Highwayman begins a quickly controlled slowdown, obviously infuriating Joe Dumptruck, and quickly moves into the middle lane before Shoehorn Girl can react, mere inches between his bumper and Joe's. As his enemy panics at this development, frantically looking around while the crumbs from her second Drake's Coffee Cake fly from her lips onto the dashboard, our hero swoops into the right lane and accelerates to keep her from getting in front again. For obvious reasons, she is unable to match his acceleration.

As his exit approaches, the Highwayman glances over to Shoehorn girl and grins, knowing she has almost won this day thanks to his momentary distraction. Judging by the shiny substance on her cheeks, (Assuming it is tears?) she knows she has failed too.

Exiting the highway our hero once again feels the calm satisfaction of surviving the dreaded morning commute. Once again defeating the enemies on the road, the Highwayman prepares to face the day knowing he has a slight respit from the enemies of the road, until the next time..........

Tune in again next week for the continuing saga of, The Morning Commute.
