I can't believe I still feel this bad after over a week! I looked back to see when I posted the "Feelin Low" post and it's been a week. That happened after feeling bad for several days first. I maybe caught some super germ and it likes my insides. That's why I still feel like crap. It's inside there somewhere busily making a home for itself and all it's friends and relatives. I'm a germ condo complex. I'm not usually one to get sick, but this time, I can't get un-sick. My focus is bad an I can't concentrate at all. Weird.
I need some home remedies. My head, stomach, sinuses and skin hurt. Yep, even the skin. When I touch it I feel like it's sort of burning or tingling. Actually that's kind of neat, but I know it's not quite right. I refuse to go to a doctor, so if there are those who want to suggest that, thanks, but it ain't happening.
Anyway, I just felt like venting. Maybe I'll try some chicken soup. That is the cure for everything, right? Maybe Tequila? Maybe Taco Bell?

airborne. airborne and vodka. :P
I heard plain, white, disgusting cauliflower soup works for bad colds. Just kidding!!
Gee Bob, I'm sorry you feel bad. I always feel better when I have a Jamba Juice, but they don't have those there do they? Also you might try steaming as a way of breaking up some of that sinus stuff. I hope you feel better soon.:)
I've been ill too. I tried to cure my cold last night with Brandy, and now I'm even more ill this morning. I tried to remedy *that* with a McDonalds breakfast. I have a feeling I am going to be my illest later...
tequila, duh!
but seriously:
- vitamin c.
- drink as much water as you can stand.
- no OJ. i know everyone says drink orange juice, but like milk, it'll have a party in your mucous membranes.
- no caffeine. caffeine bad. it will only dehydrate you. go nuts with it when you recover.
- zinc lozenges! some are flat out nasty tasting, but cold-eeze makes a good green tea one.
- garlic cloves! or if you're not hardcore - garlic capsules! check your local health food store for the kind that don't give you stinky garlic breath, if you worry about that kinda thing.
- i know a pharmacist who swears by sudafed so you might want to try that. plain old ibuprofen is good if you're achy.
- ginger is supposed to be good for colds, but i've never tried it myself. here's a recipe i found for a drink that doesn't sound too bad:
Hot Orange & Ginger
1 orange
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon ginger (helps to soothe the throat)
1 cup boiling water
Squeeze the juice from a fresh orange into a cup of boiled water, add ginger & honey for taste. Sip while warm.
- hot toddy! make a nice hot cup of tea, squeeze in some lemon, add honey to taste, and a shot of whiskey. or brandy, or tequila, if that's your thang. the honey-lemon-tea parts are all good for you, and the alcohol will help you sleep, which (along with keeping yourself hydrated, of course) is essential to allowing your body to heal.
- matzoh ball soup! MMMMMM! chicken soup in any form is the perfect cold food. they must call it the jewish penicillin for a reason!
if it's the flu, and it sounds like it, it doesn't matter whether you go to a doctor or not - they'll likely just tell you the virus has to run its course, as there's no real cure for it, only ways to treat/contain its symptoms. HOWEVER, if you feel like the sickness has spread to your chest or you become feverish for a few days: GO TO A DOCTOR.
I'm LMAO at egghe's comment!
Bob, make sure you get lots of liquids. And it may not work for everybody, but when I'm feeling ucky, I stay drunk of Nyquil for a couple days, and that usually knocks it right out of me.
And as an added bonus, not only do I end up feeling better, but my husband gets a couple days of entertainment from loopy ol' me drunk on Nyquil. I swear, I think he looks forward to it.
Feel better!
Dang! That Lupe Velez really knows her stuff!
Hey Grace, I get the vodka thing but what's airborne?
Very funny Peachy. Yuck!
Thanks Nina. What's a Jamba Juice? The steaming in the shower helped but I still feel woozy and the skin thing is weirding me out. It is fun, but I know it's not right.
Ian, that combination will definitely keep you illin.
Thanks EJ. I did suck down the NyQuil and got some sleep. I need chicken soup. Msut search some out today.
Lupe, I don't know what to say. Are you a Doctor or a Nurse or something? Wow. Funny you mentioned orange juice, I had some yesterday morning and almost immediately I felt worse. I don't even like the stuff, but I thought I was doing something good. I'm going to try that Hot Orange & Ginger recipe tonight.
Egghe, can I dip into yer stash o'leeches, m'friend?
Lynn, NyQuil is the only way I can sleep. It's great. I'd like to see that loopy routine too. I bet that's entertaining.
Freebird, you ain't kidding! Lupe's got it going on.
"Lupe, I don't know what to say. Are you a Doctor or a Nurse or something?"
naw, i'm a, uhhh, nonimportant "healthcare professional" who also happens to loathe going to the doctor. it's flu time in the old folks home and there's a LOT of it going around so i'm up on my home remedy stuff.
oh and i forgot the most important thing, whether you're sick or not:
WASH YOUR HANDS
WASH YOUR HANDS
WASH YOUR HANDS
WASH YOUR HANDS
carry one of those hand sanitizer thingies everywhere if you have to!
Have a hot whiskey toddy followed by a shot of bourbon. Continue this until you can't feel anything.
Drummerboy
Bob, Bob, Bob..listen up! I tried ALL that shit, none of it works, I've been sick/cough/sinus for around a month now...it sucks...but I was downing "Tylenol Cough & Sore Throat" liquid stuff, one says daytime and one says nitetime, it was quite ok I guess...still coughing and phelgmy though.
