I just read this article about Ashlee Simpson's performance at the Orange Bowl. Apparently it stunk. It's the second recent major malfunction in her singing career.
Maybe she isn't a singer. Maybe she's just having a run of bad luck. I don't know, but I know this; I feel bad for her. The SNL lip syncing thing was bad, but to be booed and jeered at by 100,000 people at a live performance? Well that must suck.
I really feel bad for her.

I saw this! I also watched a clip of it online, b/c I am a pop news junkie.
I feel sorry for her, b/c he entire life she's lived in Jessia's shadow. She'll always want to be like her sister, while never actually being able to achieve that. She'll have to figure out who she is, without her family pulling the strings. Hopefully she'll go away for a while, get out from under her unbelieveably creepy father.
Wow, I'm surprised. I thought I'd catch some crap for this one. I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel bad for her.
Her first album did go double platinum (I think triple platinum) so I have to wonder if it's a talent issue or not. Maybe today's technology helped her out too much on the recordings?
I've bombed in front of crowds too (very small ones) and it sucks. But +/-100,000? Scary.
I go back and forth on whether I like her or not. I actually bought her CD and thought it was a pleasant surprise. I couldn't stand to watch her on her MTV show but I like her music so far.
I do feel really bad for her. She is young and trying to get out of the expectations based on her sister's "career" and she just keeps hitting a wall.
And ditto on the creepy father comment. Ewww.
I feel sorry for her, too, but mostly because she is ugly and that's sad.

YB - I am also in between on this. I really think she should break lose and become herself a little more. Its my thought that she is trying to overcome the stigma of being Jessica's sister.
I am sure she has awesome talent just a little nervous and it ends up a bad story.
However, I dont think this will die. The media are insensitive assholes and will always refer back to her SNL performance.

i, too am waffling about whether or not i like ashlee simpson. her songs aren't half bad and i know that if i was a 14 year old girl again she's be my current obsession (along with avril). i know i gravitate toward that stuff. but.. i can't stand her. or how they are shamelessly trying to promote her just to sell an image. as a singer myself.. the girl can't sing. i have acid reflux.. i can hold a tune. but whatever.
what i feel really bad for is the few times i have caught her stupid "reality" show is the lack of support or encouragement she gets from her parents. her mother is constantly putting her down. you can tell they favour jessica.
i am ashamed to admit i am obsess with jessica simpson. i can't stand to watch her sing (it gives me night mares. how huge is her mouth???) but i think she's fun.
Well, I'm glad to see some sympathy/empathy for Ashlee. I do think she's struggling to get out from under her sister's shadow, but I'm not convinced that she is a singer either.
J, as far as I know, she didn't do any square dance jigs, though I saw her do an imitation of the SNL one on some awards thing recently.
Beergirl, you are right about her Father being creepy. I saw a Newlyweds show where even Nick was creeped out by him.
EJ, I'd prefer to hear her sing over her sister anyday. But I'm with Michelle & Cat when it comes to which one I'd rather ogle. ;)
Smashlee, I tried to watch some of her 'reality' show, but it was lame. Plus her parents were pretty mean to her and it irritated me. It is a far cry from Nick & Jessica's show, which I came to like by accident.
Autumn, you are so right about the media. Seems like they are always looking for the next big thing to drag someone down with. They won't let up.
Egg-He, I agree. She doesn't have the chops of big sis and the only way she got going was probably due to her family ties. Billy Ripken was a very good defensive 2nd baseman, he just couldn't hit. I liked him better than his big brother Cal. Cal was way over-rated.
Cat, I think the huge difference between Ashlee and Avril is that Avril is totally her own person. She's going to do things her way, do what she wants and to hell with anyone's opinions. She's so hot!
